Patna: A heartwarming cross-cultural love story unfolded in the city as renowned Australian painter Tessa Bartholomeo married Bihari scientist Dr. Ketan Patel in a traditional Hindu ceremony at the COI Club in Danapur on Friday.
Ketan, originally from Nawada and the son of Ranjit Kumar Patel, vice-president of the Nawada District Bar Association, is currently working as a research scientist in chemistry at the University of Adelaide, where he is engaged in hydrogen research.
The couple first met during a cultural event in Australia, where their connection grew from friendship to a deep bond that eventually led to marriage. Tessa, whose artwork has been showcased globally, expressed her admiration for Indian culture, saying she was moved by the love and warmth of the people, which inspired their decision to marry as per Indian customs.
The reception witnessed a lively celebration, with guests from Australia dancing to popular Bollywood tracks, including “Log Kahte Hain Main Sharabi Hoon…”. Tessa’s family — including her father John Bartholomew, a former County Cricket League player and current marketing trainer for the Australian government, mother Caroline, sister Lynsey, brother-in-law Dan John, and their children — travelled from Australia to be a part of the wedding festivities.
The Samdhi Milan ceremony added to the joyous atmosphere as John welcomed Ranjeet Patel with a traditional garland, embracing the cultural heritage of Bihar and marking the beginning of a beautiful new chapter for the couple.
