Patna: The water level of the Ganga has started to recede in Patna, but it remains above the danger mark at Maner, Digha Ghat and Gandhi Ghat, according to the Flood Control Department’s report at 6am on Friday.

At Maner, the river level fell by 16cm over 24 hours to 52.12 metres, remaining 12cm above the danger mark of 52 metres.

The water level at Digha Ghat stood at 50.47 metres, 2cm above the danger mark. At Gandhi Ghat, the level fell by around 30cm over three days to 49.28 metres, but remained 68cm above the danger mark.

Water Remains In Low-Lying Areas

Despite the decline in river levels, water remains stagnant in diara and other low-lying areas that were previously inundated.

In the Khusrupur diara, Ganga water has travelled more than 1km inland from the riverbank, reaching the vicinity of Baikunth Dham Temple.

Several acres of crops have been damaged by the flooding, with farmers reporting losses. Officials expect the affected fields to take time to drain fully even as the river level continues to fall.

Danapur Sees Gradual Improvement

Water remains accumulated in riverside areas of Danapur but is gradually receding as the Ganga level falls, providing some relief to residents.

The situation in Bakhtiyarpur remains normal, while Mokama has recorded a slight rise in the Ganga’s water level. Authorities said the situation there remains under control and the area is being closely monitored.

Son, Punpun Levels Also Monitored

The Son river at Koilwar was recorded at 52.80 metres, well below its danger mark of 55.52 metres, with the water level continuing to decline.

At Shripalpur on the Punpun river, the water level stood at 49.10 metres, 1.50 metres below the danger mark of 50.60 metres. The level there remains stable.

However, the Punpun is rising at Kinjar in Arwal, prompting continued monitoring of low-lying areas in southern Patna.

The Flood Control Department continues to monitor river levels, embankments and affected areas as the Ganga recedes across the district.
