Gas Pipeline Leak Sparks Panic in Patna, Disaster Narrowly Averted

Patna : A gas pipeline leak in Patna’s Danapur area on Tuesday triggered panic among residents, prompting swift emergency action to prevent a potential catastrophe. The incident occurred near Mahua Bagh Road when workers drilling to install an electric transformer accidentally punctured an underground CNG pipeline.
As the strong smell of gas spread through the area, fears of an explosion led to chaos. Police arrived promptly, blocking traffic as a precaution while officials from GAIL India, which operates the pipeline, rushed to the scene and shut off the gas supply to avert further danger.
With the supply cut off, relief swept through the neighborhood, and emergency crews got to work repairing the damaged pipeline. GAIL India engineer Avinash Kumar confirmed that the repair operation was conducted on a “war footing” to swiftly contain the leak.
Local resident SK Yadav, alerted police and fire officials, urging them to expedite repairs and strengthen safety measures to prevent future incidents.
The drilling also severed an underground power cable, causing a one-and-a-half-hour electricity outage that affected several areas, including Nariya, Lanka, and Adityanagar.
Authorities have reassured residents that all necessary precautions are in place to prevent further risks. “Every possible step is being taken to control the situation and ensure public safety,” an official stated.
