Gaya: The Gaya district administration on Saturday honoured personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other officials for their role in the successful rescue of three-year-old Piyush Kumar, who was pulled alive from a 30-foot-deep borewell in Fatehpur block on Friday.
District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar felicitated members of the NDRF, SDRF, block development officers (BDOs), circle officers (COs), and other officials at a programme held at the district collectorate.
NDRF Led Rescue Operation
Addressing the gathering, the district magistrate said the NDRF played the leading role in rescuing the child, while the SDRF, local administration and public representatives extended crucial support throughout the operation.
He said the coordinated efforts of all agencies ensured the rescue mission was completed successfully.
District-Wide Safety Measures Ordered
The district magistrate said the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has been directed to immediately identify and seal all open or abandoned borewells across the district.
He added that all PHED engineers have been asked to submit certificates confirming that open borewells in their respective jurisdictions have been safely closed.
Action Against Those Responsible
Shubhankar said explanations have been sought from the officials and personnel associated with the borewell in which the child fell.
He added that orders have also been issued to register an FIR against the agency and the individuals responsible for leaving the borewell uncovered.
Seven-Hour Rescue
Piyush Kumar fell into the borewell in Rangoonagar village of Fatehpur block on Thursday evening. After a rescue operation lasting around seven hours, teams from the NDRF and SDRF successfully brought the child out safely.
