Gayaji: The Pitru Paksha Mela in Gayaji is scheduled to begin on September 25, with thousands of pilgrims from across India and abroad expected to arrive to perform Pind Daan and Tarpan for their ancestors.
As in previous years, 58 schools within the Gayaji Municipal Corporation area will be used as accommodation centres for pilgrims. The Education Department has stepped up preparations to ensure the schools are ready before the fair begins.
Schools Being Inspected
Education Department officials are conducting regular inspections of the designated schools. They are checking the condition of buildings and rooms, drinking water, electricity, toilets and cleanliness.
Officials have been instructed to address any shortcomings identified during the inspections. Particular attention is being given to basic facilities that pilgrims will require during their stay.
Schools in both the northern and southern zones of the municipal corporation are being assessed. Officials are also checking the cleanliness of classrooms and school premises, as well as the condition of paintwork.
Where painting or other repair work is required, the department has said it will be completed before the fair begins.
Teachers To Assist Pilgrims
Teachers will also be deployed at the accommodation centres to assist pilgrims and address issues during their stay.
The District Education Officer has written to the headmasters of all 58 schools seeking details of teachers who can be assigned duties. The list includes the teacher’s name, school, designation, date of retirement and mobile number.
Based on the information received, teachers will be assigned to the accommodation centres according to a duty schedule.
Focus On Basic Facilities
Teachers stationed at the schools will help pilgrims with accommodation-related issues and provide information about the facilities available at the centres.
The Education Department is working to ensure that drinking water, electricity, toilets and cleanliness are in place before pilgrims begin arriving.
Officials have said all 58 schools will be prepared in advance of the September 25 start of the Pitru Paksha Mela, with the focus on providing basic amenities and maintaining the premises in suitable condition.
