West Champaran: CT scan services at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Bettiah have been temporarily suspended due to technical complications and ongoing infrastructure upgrades, leaving patients dependent on costly private diagnostic centres. Hospital authorities said the disruption will continue until February 21, 2026.
According to an official notification, the CT scan machine became non-operational due to technical issues encountered during its installation in the radiology department, along with structural renovation work in the newly constructed Block-B building. Officials said the equipment could not be made functional within the planned timeframe and would remain unavailable until the technical and infrastructure improvements are completed.
The suspension has particularly affected patients requiring urgent diagnostic imaging, including those involved in road accidents, stroke cases, and other serious medical conditions. Since February 11, nearly a dozen critically injured patients have reportedly needed CT scans but were forced to seek services outside the hospital due to the unavailability of the facility.
With only two diagnostic centres in the local market offering CT scan services, patients and their families have faced increased financial burden and delays. Reports have also emerged of intermediaries approaching patients within the hospital premises and directing them to private facilities, raising concerns about exploitation during the service disruption.
Hospital authorities expressed regret over the inconvenience and appealed to the public for cooperation. They said necessary technical corrections and structural upgrades are underway and assured that the CT scan service would be restored soon, with the aim of providing uninterrupted and reliable diagnostic care in the future.
