Vaishali: notorious criminal wanted in a major gold robbery case has been killed in an encounter in Bihar’s Vaishali district. The incident happened on Thursday behind Chintamanipur High School in the Vaishali police station area. The accused, Arvind Sahni, was the mastermind of a high-profile gold heist in Chhattisgarh and had been evading arrest for months.
Police said Sahni faced 22 serious cases, including murder and robbery, in different districts. He was on the wanted list in Muzaffarpur, where police had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for his capture. Similar cases were registered against him in East Champaran.
According to officials, the Special Task Force (STF) and local police moved in after receiving information about Sahni’s hideout. When they tried to arrest him, he opened fire, and police retaliated. Vaishali SP Lalit Mohan Sharma and DSP Gopal Mandal were among the officers at the spot. A large police force has been deployed in the area after the encounter.
Sahni, a resident of Dharampur village in Vaishali block, was known for his involvement in multiple high-profile crimes. Police say his death brings an end to a long search but investigations into his criminal network are still ongoing.
