Patna: Google marked International Labour Day 2026 with a colourful and emotional Doodle dedicated to workers across the world, celebrating the people whose daily efforts keep society functioning smoothly. The special artwork appeared on Google’s homepage on May 1 and quickly attracted attention from users globally. Through the Doodle, the tech giant paid tribute not only to professionals in major industries but also to ordinary workers whose contributions often go unnoticed. The design carried a simple yet powerful message — that the real strength of society lies in the hard work of millions of people performing jobs of every kind every single day.

The Labour Day Doodle featured workers from different professions creatively placed inside each letter of the Google logo. One part showed a worker repairing a water pipe, while another displayed a doctor studying an X-ray report. Delivery workers, technicians, agricultural labourers and other essential workers were also included in the artwork. By representing such a wide variety of professions together, Google highlighted how every sector contributes equally to the smooth functioning of modern life. The Doodle served as a reminder that behind every service and convenience people enjoy are workers dedicating their time and effort to make life easier for others.

International Labour Day, also known as May Day in several countries, is celebrated every year on 1 May to honour workers and labour movements. The day has deep historical roots connected to labour rights struggles during the industrial era of the 19th century. At that time, workers across factories and industries were forced to work extremely long hours in poor conditions. This led to protests and movements demanding fair treatment and better working hours. The famous slogan calling for “8 hours of work, 8 hours of rest and 8 hours for personal life” became a symbol of the labour rights movement worldwide. In India, Labour Day was celebrated for the first time in Chennai in 1923 and has since become an important occasion recognising workers’ contributions to society and the economy.

This year’s Labour Day theme focuses on creating a “Healthy Psychosocial Working Environment”, drawing attention to growing concerns around mental stress, work pressure and work-life balance. According to the International Labour Organization, modern workplaces are increasingly facing challenges related to burnout, stress and emotional wellbeing. As work culture continues to evolve rapidly in the digital age, experts say it is becoming equally important to protect workers’ mental health alongside their physical safety and financial security. Google’s Doodle reflected this message by encouraging users to appreciate not just the services they use daily, but also the people behind them.

The special Doodle also sparked conversations online about the importance of respecting every profession, regardless of status or income. Many social media users praised the company for choosing to celebrate workers instead of focusing on technology or entertainment. The artwork resonated strongly because it recognised the efforts of ordinary people who often work silently behind the scenes. From healthcare workers and farmers to delivery staff and technicians, the Doodle acknowledged that every profession plays an important role in keeping communities and economies running.

Labour Day 2026 therefore became more than just a holiday for many people around the world. Google’s tribute reminded users that progress and comfort are built upon the dedication of workers across countless industries. The Doodle stood as a celebration of human effort, dignity and resilience, while also encouraging society to create healthier, fairer and more respectful workplaces for everyone.

  • đźš— Bihar is set to strengthen road safety standards with a major change in the driving licence process. Soon, applicants seeking a Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) licence will be required to complete certified training from a recognised driving institute before obtaining their licence.

The decision, approved by the Bihar Road Safety Council, aims to ensure that new drivers receive proper training in traffic rules, road safety practices, and responsible driving behaviour. With 41 operational driving training schools already functioning across the state and more institutes under development, the initiative is expected to improve driving standards and contribute to reducing road accidents.

Officials say the reform will help create a culture of safer and more disciplined driving across Bihar, placing greater emphasis on skill-based training before drivers take to the roads.
