Gopalganj: Education Minister and local MLA Mithilesh Tiwari visited several flood-affected areas in the Baikunthpur Assembly constituency of Gopalganj on Thursday to review relief and rescue operations and interact with affected residents.
The minister inspected areas including Banjarhia, Dumaria and Gamhari, where he spoke to villagers and took note of the problems being faced by people affected by the flooding.
Minister Reviews Relief and Rescue Operations
During the visit, Tiwari sought information from officials about ongoing relief and rescue measures and issued directions regarding arrangements for affected residents.
He also inspected a community kitchen operating in the flood-affected area.
The minister reviewed the food being served and the arrangements at the facility and directed officials to ensure that affected people receive adequate, timely and good-quality meals.
Crop Loss Compensation Discussed With Chief Minister
The issue of compensation for farmers who have suffered crop losses due to the floods also came up during the minister’s visit.
Tiwari spoke over the telephone with Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary regarding compensation for affected farmers.
According to the minister, the government is working to ensure that eligible farmers receive compensation for crop damage and other permissible relief at the earliest.
Residents Raise Allegation of Embankment Cutting
During his interaction with villagers, residents also raised concerns over an alleged cutting of an embankment.
The villagers claimed that the embankment was cut, resulting in floodwater spreading rapidly into the surrounding areas.
Taking note of the complaint, Tiwari said the matter would be subjected to a high-level inquiry. He also said that action would be taken according to the rules if anyone is found responsible.
The allegations are subject to investigation, and further details are awaited from the authorities.
Government Says Relief Efforts Underway
Tiwari said the government and administration were standing with flood-affected people and working to provide relief during the crisis.
He said efforts were continuing to assess agricultural losses, provide assistance to affected families and restore normal conditions in the flood-hit areas.
The administration is continuing to monitor the situation and relief arrangements in the affected parts of Baikunthpur.
