Bhagalpur: A youth was killed on Sunday night in Navgachhia, Bhagalpur, in a brazen attack by bike-riding assailants. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Ravindra Kumar, was the son of Ashrafi Chaudhary and a resident of Laugna village in Bettiah district.

Ravindra, who had been living with his maternal grandfather, the late Vasudev Chaudhary, since childhood, was reportedly smoking a cigarette when three armed criminals on a motorcycle approached him and opened fire. He was struck by four bullets in the back, head, and other areas of his body. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Officials from the police picket stationed at Khadi Bhandaar notified senior authorities about the incident. Navgachhia Station House Officer (SHO) Ravi Shankar Singh arrived at the scene with his team and initiated an investigation. The victim’s body was subsequently sent to Konwagachhia Subdivision Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Navagachia Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Om Prakash also visited the site of the incident, where he questioned nearby grocery shopkeeper Neeraj Yadav and others present during the shooting. SDPO Prakash noted that Ravindra had a criminal history and had previously been incarcerated. The police are currently investigating his past criminal activities. A cartridge was recovered from the crime scene as part of their investigation, and efforts are being made to review nearby CCTV footage for additional leads.

SHO Ravi Shankar Singh stated that the victim’s family was contacted, but they indicated that only relatives from his maternal side would handle the cremation. Additionally, Ravindra’s maternal uncle has not provided any accurate information and has yet to arrive at the hospital.
