Patna: Patna District Magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the metro rail project with Additional Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department, Varsha Singh. The meeting, attended by Project Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Ratnesh Kumar Bariyar, focused on resolving logistical challenges affecting the project’s timeline.

Bariyar reported that the construction of the priority corridor, overseen by Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited, has been hindered due to persistent traffic congestion on the bypass road over the past month. The casting yard for the metro corridor is located in Bikrampur, Fatuha, from where precast elements are transported to various metro sites. However, heavy traffic has slowed this process significantly.

Emphasising the metro project’s importance for public transport, Singh reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to facilitating its completion by the target date of 15 August 2025. The priority corridor stretches from Patliputra Bus Terminal in Bairia to Malahi Pakadi, passing through key metro sites including Zero Mile, Bhootnath, and Khemnichak.

To address the traffic issue, the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) proposed restricting the movement of heavy vehicles from Fatuha towards Patna (Zero Mile) between 2pm and 5pm. Following deliberations, the District Magistrate approved the measure, citing public interest. The restriction is effective immediately, with the Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order), District Transport Officer, and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) directed to ensure strict enforcement.
