Nalanda / Patna : Police in Nalanda district have increased security measures at major tourist sites in response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left one person dead and several injured.
Following the attack in the popular Baisaran Valley region, authorities in Nalanda held an emergency security meeting on Tuesday, resulting in intensified patrolling and heightened surveillance at key locations including the Nalanda ruins, Rajgir, Pawapuri, and other tourism hotspots. Forested areas and religious pilgrimage sites have also been brought under increased watch.
Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni confirmed that patrol teams have been reinforced across sensitive areas such as the Rajgir ropeway, zoo safari, nature safari, and Buddhist heritage sites like Vulture Peak, Venuvan, and the Ashok Stupa. “Every location is being monitored to prevent any untoward incident. We are taking no chances,” he said.
Despite no prior history of terror incidents in the district, officials are not underestimating the potential risk. Rajgir DSP Sunil Kumar Singh stated that precautionary measures are essential, particularly during the peak tourist season. “The attack in Pahalgam is a reminder that complacency is not an option,” he said.
The incident in Pahalgam, South Kashmir—a region currently seeing an influx of summer tourists—has drawn national attention and prompted a security rethink in other tourism-heavy districts. Ten tourists and two locals were injured in the attack, which has triggered an extensive search operation by security forces in the region.
