High Court Lawyers to Fight BPSC Candidates’ Case for Free

Patna High Court

Patna: High Court lawyers have announced they will provide free legal assistance to BPSC candidates who faced police action during a protest in Patna. The protestors, raising their voices against alleged irregularities in the BPSC examinations, were met with a lathicharge and water cannons, a move that has been criticized nationwide. In response, the lawyers have pledged to support the candidates at no cost.

Senior advocate Yogesh Chandra Verma, leading the initiative, held a press conference to declare solidarity with the candidates. He condemned the police’s handling of the situation, calling it an act of cruelty. Verma assured the candidates of complete legal backing to address the alleged issues in the examination process and emphasized the importance of standing up for their rights.

The lawyers questioned the need for both water cannons and a lathicharge on the protestors. They urged the police to reflect on their own student struggles and understand the plight of those fighting for justice. The incident has also drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties and civil society, with demands for accountability over the excessive use of force.

Accusations of repeated irregularities in BPSC examinations have further intensified the unrest. Lawyers have alleged that the commission is plagued by consistent mismanagement, with controversies surrounding nearly every examination. They stressed the need for systemic reforms, highlighting that court interventions have become a recurring necessity due to these persistent issues.
