Patna: Holika Dahan rituals were performed across Bihar at an auspicious time amid heightened security, with police and fire brigade teams remaining on alert until midnight. In Patna, the festival was marked by traditional celebrations and administrative preparedness, ensuring a peaceful observance of the pre-Holi ritual.
In Patna, large Holika pyres were erected in prominent locations including Gandhi Maidan, Boring Road, Dak Bungalow Square, Kankarbagh, and areas of historical significance such as Pataliputra. Pyres were also lit in Digha and Patna City, reflecting widespread participation.
The district administration deployed security forces and emergency teams as a precaution. Acting on instructions from senior officials, police units and fire brigade personnel remained stationed in sensitive zones throughout the night. Officials reported that arrangements were in place to prevent accidents and maintain public order.
Security presence was notable in areas such as Phulwarisharif, where Holika Dahan was performed under administrative supervision. Authorities confirmed that officers—including sub-divisional officials, police personnel, and women’s security units—patrolled vulnerable locations. Senior officials were also present near the Tamtam stop, considered a sensitive area, to monitor proceedings.
Rituals were observed peacefully in multiple neighbourhoods, including Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk, Naya Tola, Nohsa Mod, Valmi, AIIMS Golambar, Bhusaula Danapur, Nagwa, Babhanpura, Janipur, Kurkuri, Ranipur, Karaudi Chak, Barhampur, Anisabad, Ramakrishna Nagar, Jaganpura, Parsa Bazaar, Sampatchak, Bairiya, Gaurichak, and Beldari Chak.
Residents participated in traditional songs and greetings, singing Fagua and Holi melodies accompanied by dholak and cymbals. Coloured powders were exchanged as people wished one another a happy Holi. Officials credited the peaceful atmosphere to administrative vigilance and public cooperation.
Following the Holika Dahan, attention now shifts to Holi celebrations scheduled for March 4. Markets in Patna—particularly at Boring Road, New Market Station Road, and Kadamkuan—have witnessed increased activity. Consumers are purchasing coloured powders, water guns, and festive accessories, with demand for herbal and organic colours reportedly rising. Children’s toys featuring cartoon designs have also gained popularity, adding vibrancy to the market ahead of the festival.
Authorities stated that no major incidents were reported during the celebrations and thanked residents for their cooperation. The district administration affirmed that security measures would remain in place throughout the Holi period.
