Patna/Hyderabad: A 26-year-old software engineer from Bihar has been found dead in her apartment in Hyderabad, with police investigating allegations of dowry harassment raised by her family.
The woman, identified as Ishita Yadav, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in the hall of her residence in the Miyapur area of Cyberabad on Wednesday evening, according to officials at the Miyapur police station.
Police said the incident was reported by her husband, Neeraj Bhansal. Officers reached the scene, took custody of the body and sent it to Gandhi Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman may have been under pressure related to alleged dowry demands. Her family has accused Bhansal of harassment, claiming that he had been demanding money since their marriage and had also pressured them to invest in a startup venture he had recently launched.
The couple had met through social media in 2020 and were in a relationship for several years before marrying in February this year in Patna. Following the wedding, they moved to Hyderabad to work in the software sector.
Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s parents, police have registered a case against Bhansal and taken him into custody for questioning. Officials said further action would depend on the findings of the postmortem report and the outcome of the investigation.
Police said the inquiry is ongoing and that all aspects of the case are being examined.
