If Grand Alliance Wins Majority, Leader of Largest Party Will Be CM: CPI(ML)’s Dipankar Bhattacharya

Patna: In a press conference held in Patna on Tuesday, Dipankar Bhattacharya, general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist), a constituent of Bihar’s Grand Alliance, asserted that the chief ministerial position should be occupied by the leader of the largest party within the alliance. This stance introduces ambiguity regarding RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav’s anticipated role as the alliance’s chief ministerial candidate.
Bhattacharya emphasized the need for a change in Bihar’s political landscape in 2025, drawing parallels with the opposition’s success in Jharkhand. He highlighted the importance of unity within the alliance and announced a representative conference scheduled for May 4 to strategize for the upcoming elections.
While the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has long promoted Tejashwi as the face of the alliance, Bhattacharya’s remarks suggest a more conditional approach, contingent on the election results. This perspective aligns with similar sentiments expressed by the Congress party, indicating a preference for post-election deliberations on leadership roles.
Bhattacharya also criticized the BJP, accusing it of undermining democratic processes and targeting opposition leaders. He referenced the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack, questioning the central government’s handling of national security and drawing comparisons to previous administrations.
