IIM Bodhgaya Organizes “Riverathon – Save Niranjana” Marathon to Promote River Conservation

Gaya: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bodhgaya took a proactive step towards environmental conservation by organizing a special marathon called “Riverathon – Save Niranjana.” This event aimed to raise awareness among the public about the critical need to contribute to the preservation of the Niranjana River in Bihar. The marathon, sponsored by the State Bank of India (SBI), kicked off the annual fest “Elegante” organized by Pragati, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee of IIM Bodh Gaya, scheduled from January 26 to 28, 2024.
The Chief Guest for the event was Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Gaya, Ashish Bharti, accompanied by Anita Singh, former Head of Medical Affairs for India and South Asia, and Dr. Vineeta S., Director of IIM Bodh Gaya. The marathon was inaugurated by the distinguished guests, emphasizing the significance of the conservation of the Niranjana River.
SSP Ashish Bharti encouraged participation from the professors and students of IIM Bodhgaya, urging them to contribute by providing valuable management suggestions to the local administration. Dr. Vineeta S. Sahay, the Director of IIM Bodhgaya, highlighted the unique role of “Riverathon” in spreading awareness about the ongoing campaign for the conservation of the Niranjana River and promoting student health awareness.
The marathon, covering a distance of 8 km, commenced from IIM Bodh Gaya, passed through Magadh University, reached Maya Sarovar Lake, and concluded back at the IIM campus. The event garnered enthusiastic participation from over 600 individuals, including cadets from the Bihar Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (BIPARD) and the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Gaya. Faculty members, staff, and students of the institute actively engaged in the race with great enthusiasm.
Refreshments, including food and beverages, were provided at various stages of the marathon by event sponsors Hotel Taj Darbar and SBI. The inspiring sight of participants running passionately in the fresh winter morning served to enlighten and motivate local spectators.
IIM Bodh Gaya has undertaken a collaborative effort with the National Mission for Clean Ganga, Ministry of Jal Shakti, to revive the Niranjana River, implementing several plans towards this environmental initiative. The marathon concluded with the distribution of prizes to all participants, marking a successful and impactful event in promoting environmental awareness.
