Patna: IIT Patna marked a milestone in its academic journey with the 11th Convocation, held on 15 February 2025 in a grand ceremony at the institute’s auditorium. The event witnessed the conferment of degrees to 713 students, the largest graduating batch in the institute’s history, with 581 male and 132 female students earning their BTech, MTech, MSc, and PhD degrees.

Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) and Union Minister of State for Education, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Sunil Kumar, Bihar’s education minister, attended as the guest of honour. Prof T. N. Singh, acting chairman of the Board of Governors and director of IIT Patna, extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests.

In his address, Minister Chaudhary lauded the global recognition of IITs and their commitment to academic excellence. “Your education has shaped your dreams, and now you are ready to take on the world with energy and enthusiasm. Always stay connected to your roots, as a kite can only soar high if it remains attached to its string,” he said. Stressing the importance of skill development, he added: “Skills are the currency of the future. The more you invest in them, the more valuable you will become.”

Prof T. N. Singh reflected on the resilience of the graduating batch, many of whom began their IIT journey in 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic. “This difficult period taught you empathy, cooperation, and resilience. You have emerged stronger, embodying the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” he said, encouraging graduates to make a lasting impact with their knowledge and skills.

Guest of Honour, Minister Sunil Kumar urged students to embrace life’s challenges with determination. “Never lose hope under any circumstances and always strive for excellence. The ups and downs of life shape us into better individuals,” he said.

Recognising Excellence

The convocation also honoured outstanding students with gold and silver medals for academic excellence and contributions to institutional activities. Four students received gold medals, while 21 were awarded silver medals. Additionally, 19 students were presented with proficiency awards to encourage high-quality research projects.
