Madhubani: A Chinese national and two Nepali citizens were apprehended by on Friday after reportedly entering No Man’s Land along the India-Nepal border and attempting to photograph border markers. The Chinese citizen, identified as Yu Si Chow, was arrested by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) on the Indian side near Ladania, Bihar, and was produced in court on Saturday. He has been remanded to judicial custody for failing to produce valid entry documents.
Authorities said Yu Si Chow was accompanied by two Nepali nationals—Dr Sanjeev Das and engineer Mukesh Kumar Das, both from Nepal’s Siraha district. All three were seen taking photographs and videos of the border pillars before attempting to flee toward Nepal when security forces arrived. They were chased down and detained on the spot.
An FIR has been filed at the Ladania police station following a complaint by Vikrant Duttik, an officer with the 18th Battalion of the Border Outpost (BOP) Ladania. After initial questioning, the two Nepali citizens were released.
A search of Yu Si Chow’s belongings revealed a Chinese passport, a mobile phone, a laptop, and multiple currencies including Chinese yuan, US dollars, Malaysian ringgit, and 2,500 Nepalese rupees. A Chinese credit card was also found in his possession. However, police confirmed that he had no Indian visa or entry documentation.
SHO Dhananjay Kumar stated that Yu Si Chow had travelled to Nepal and was attempting to cross into Indian territory from the Nepalese side. Investigations into the motive for the border activity are ongoing.
