India-Nepal Border Road Project Nears Completion in Bihar, Boosting Connectivity and Security

Patna: More than 400km of road construction has been completed under the India-Nepal Border Road Project in Bihar, with Rs 2,486 crore spent so far. The remaining 154km stretch is expected to be completed by mid-2025, strengthening infrastructure in the border region.
Key Benefits: Enhanced Connectivity Across Seven Districts
Once completed, the 554km-long road will provide direct connectivity to seven Bihar districts:
- West Champaran
- East Champaran
- Sitamarhi
- Madhubani
- Supaul
- Araria
- Kishanganj
This project is expected to boost socio-economic development in historically neglected border areas, improving transport facilities, cross-border connectivity, and trade relations between India and Nepal. It will also enhance border security, aiding Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) patrols and curbing smuggling activities.
Tourism and Trade to Get a Boost
The India-Nepal border spans 729km, with 554km covered under this initiative. Launched in 2010, the project aims to develop 1,372km of border roads across Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, with a significant portion already completed.
A Catalyst for Growth in Border Regions
The project will reduce travel time to Nepal, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal, while improving education, healthcare, and business opportunities in remote areas. In addition to benefiting local communities, the improved infrastructure is expected to promote tourism and trade, providing a major push for regional development.
