Patna: The Postal Department has announced special arrangements for Raksha Bandhan, introducing waterproof envelopes and dedicated Rakhi counters to help ensure that festive deliveries reach their destinations safely during the monsoon.
The initiative aims to protect rakhis from rain-related damage while facilitating their timely delivery to recipients across the country.
Waterproof Envelopes To Protect Rakhis
As part of the special arrangements, Head Post Offices and Sub-Post Offices will begin selling specially designed waterproof envelopes.
The envelopes will be available in two variants, priced at Rs 10 and Rs 15, and can be used to send rakhis anywhere in India.
According to the department, the waterproof packaging has been designed to protect rakhis from moisture and light rain, while its sturdy construction also reduces the risk of damage during transit.
Dedicated Rakhi Counters At Post Offices
The Postal Department will also open special Rakhi counters at Head Post Offices and Sub-Post Offices to streamline the booking and dispatch of festive mail.
Officials said additional attention would be given to the sorting and delivery of rakhis and parcels to ensure they reach recipients before the festival.
Public Urged To Post Rakhis Early
The department has appealed to the public not to wait until the last moment to send rakhis.
It has advised sisters to post their rakhis well in advance so that deliveries can be completed before Raksha Bandhan, particularly as monsoon conditions may affect transportation and logistics.
Postal Department Expects High Demand
The Senior Superintendent of Post Offices said that post offices handle a large volume of rakhi deliveries every year, with sisters sending them to brothers living in different parts of India as well as overseas.
In view of the seasonal demand, the department has made special arrangements once again this year, with the sale of waterproof envelopes set to begin shortly at all Head Post Offices and Sub-Post Offices.
