Patna: The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a notification confirming the return of IPS officer Kundan Krishnan to Bihar from central deputation. Currently serving as the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Krishnan is expected to be entrusted with a significant role in the Nitish Kumar-led state government upon his return.
Known for his strict and fearless approach, Kundan Krishnan, a 1994-batch IPS officer, gained prominence during his tenure as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Patna district. His reputation as a sharp officer made him a formidable figure for criminals and mafias. He has also held key positions such as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and Zonal Inspector General (IG) in Patna, as well as IG (Operations), where he played a crucial role in dismantling Naxalite dominance in Bihar.
Krishnan, originally from Nalanda, the home district of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has served in several pivotal roles, including ADG Headquarters. A notable incident from his career occurred in 2002 when he was the SP of Chhapra. Facing unrest among 1,200 prisoners in Chhapra Jail, Krishnan personally intervened, armed with an AK-47. The situation escalated into police action, resulting in the death of five prisoners and a fracture in his hand during the confrontation.
With his return, Krishnan is anticipated to bring his extensive experience and uncompromising approach back to Bihar’s administrative and law enforcement framework. His previous efforts to tackle crime and extremism have left a lasting impact, and his reappointment is expected to bolster governance in the state.
