Patna: Imagine a Patna where traffic jams are a distant memory, where vehicles flow freely and precious time isn’t wasted in gridlock. This vision is set to become a reality, as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has envisioned a comprehensive master plan to liberate Patna and its surrounding districts from the clutches of chronic traffic congestion.

During his recent Pragati Yatra, the Chief Minister announced a slew of transformative projects aimed at revolutionizing the transportation landscape of Patna, Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, Bhojpur, and Nalanda. From widening roads and constructing new bridges to streamlining drainage and undergrounding electricity cables, the blueprint is designed to deliver a seamless and efficient commute for residents.

Patna’s Transformation: A Multifaceted Approach

Digha- AIIMS Elevated Road

The heart of the plan focuses on tackling the root causes of Patna’s traffic nightmares: narrow roads, tangled wires, and waterlogging. To address these issues, the Danapur-Nehru Path to Gola Road will undergo significant widening, easing congestion in the Danapur and Bailey Road areas. The J.P. Ganga Path will be extended from Koilwar to Mokama, providing a crucial alternative route for vehicles entering the capital. Furthermore, the Patna-Gaya road will be connected to the Sadiqpur-Pabheda-Masaurhi road, creating a bypass for Gaya and Jehanabad, thereby reducing pressure on main thoroughfares.

Beyond Patna: A Division-Wide Overhaul

The master plan extends beyond Patna, with initiatives aimed at improving traffic flow in other districts:

  • Buxar: Modernization of Ramrekha Ghat and development of new roads to enhance connectivity for religious tourists.
  • Rohtas and Kaimur: Strengthening regional connectivity through water supply projects from the Son River and widening of the Kargahar-Barhari-Dharampura road.
  • Bhojpur: Construction of a new road from Koilwar to Ara, providing relief from persistent traffic jams.
  • Nalanda: Development of tourism infrastructure in Rajgir, including a ropeway, eco-tourism center, and new resorts, to facilitate tourist movement.

Bridging the Gap: New Infrastructure Projects

The construction of new bridges and flyovers will play a pivotal role in easing traffic congestion. A missing link path connecting Punpun station to Patna Ring Road will alleviate traffic around the station. Bridges over the Dhoba river in Bakhtiyarpur and the Morhar river in Punpun will improve connectivity between rural areas and Patna.

Underground Solutions: Drainage and Electricity

Jam-Packed No More: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's Vision to Untangle Patna’s Traffic Woes

To combat waterlogging, underground drains will be built along Nehru Path, and the Rajiv Nagar and Anandpuri drains will be paved with roads constructed above them. The chaotic web of overhead electricity cables in Patna city will be replaced with underground lines, eliminating obstructions and improving aesthetics.

A Greenfield Vision: Reducing Airport Congestion

To further alleviate traffic pressure, the state government will request the central government to construct a new international greenfield airport in Patna, reducing the load on the existing Jayaprakash Narayan Airport.

A Modern, Jam-Free Patna Division

Jam-Packed No More: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's Vision to Untangle Patna’s Traffic Woes

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar envisions a jam-free, well-organized, and modern Patna division. “The aim of all these schemes is to make Patna and Patna division jam-free, well-organized and modern,” he stated. Upon completion, these projects are expected to transform the region’s transportation landscape, fostering economic and social development. This comprehensive plan signals a new era for Patna and its surrounding districts, promising a future of seamless connectivity and enhanced quality of life.
