Patna : A young man associated with the Jan Suraj Abhiyan drowned in the Ganga river near Patna on Wednesday morning, while attending a public outreach programme led by political strategist Prashant Kishor.
The deceased has been identified as Abhiraj Kumar, a resident of Begusarai. He had been staying in a tent set up by the Jan Suraj Abhiyan near LCT Ghat as part of an ongoing “Jan Samvad” (public dialogue) initiative.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 7am when Abhiraj went to bathe in the river. The sandbank near the ghat reportedly gave way beneath his feet, causing him to slip and fall into deep water. Despite immediate efforts by those nearby to rescue him, he could not be saved.
Rishabh Kumar, a close friend who accompanied him from Begusarai, said, “We had come for Prashant Kishor’s programme. While bathing, his feet slipped due to the soft sand, and he drowned.”
The incident has been reported to local authorities. However, there has been no official response from the Jan Suraj Abhiyan leadership at the time of publication.
