Jehanabad: In a major security lapse, around two dozen inmates escaped from the juvenile correction home near SS College in Jehanabad on Wednesday evening. The incident took place around 4 pm, when the inmates reportedly scaled the rear boundary wall near the Sai temple and fled.
So far, the police have managed to catch only two of the escaped inmates, while the rest remain absconding. The jailbreak has triggered panic in the district administration, with senior officials rushing to the spot to assess the situation.
Prisoners Escaped From Temple Side
According to local residents, the inmates climbed the wall behind the correction home and escaped towards the Sai temple. Soon after, sub-divisional officers and other senior officials reached the location to begin investigations. However, the administration has not issued a formal confirmation of the exact number of escapees.
Repeat Incident Raises Questions
Residents claimed that this was not the first time such an incident had occurred at the correction home. A few days ago, inmates had reportedly escaped in a similar manner. Locals alleged that despite past incidents, authorities failed to strengthen security, raising serious questions about negligence.
Security Under Scrutiny
Eyewitnesses and residents alleged a major lapse in security, pointing out that if proper arrangements were in place, such a large number of inmates could not have fled simultaneously. The role of policemen and security staff posted at the correction home has also come under scanner.
Police Launch Raids
Following the escape, police have launched a massive search operation and issued an alert in nearby areas. Raids are being conducted to trace the absconding inmates, but no official update has been provided on their whereabouts as of now.
