Patna: The Bihar government is progressing with a plan to extend the JP Ganga Path in Patna district towards Bihta, with the proposed 35.65-km Digha-Sherpur-Bihta corridor expected to improve connectivity and reduce travel time between Patna and Koilwar to around 30 minutes.
According to information released by the Road Construction Department, the project will connect Digha to the approach road of the Koilwar Bridge through Sherpur and Bihta. The proposed extension is aimed at strengthening road infrastructure in western Patna and neighbouring districts.
Improved Connectivity Between Patna And Bihta
The extension is expected to make travel between Patna and Bihta more convenient for commuters, particularly those travelling through western Patna.
The proposed corridor is intended to address increasing traffic pressure caused by urban expansion and a growing number of vehicles. Improved connectivity could also support commercial activities in Bihta and surrounding areas.
Patna-Koilwar Journey To Take Around 30 Minutes
The Road Construction Department estimates that the proposed road will significantly reduce travel time between Patna and Koilwar.
According to the project information, the journey could take approximately 30 minutes, potentially saving around one and a half hours compared with the existing travel route.
The improved road infrastructure is expected to benefit commuters travelling towards Koilwar and other areas along the corridor.
Elevated Road Along The Ganga And Son Rivers
The proposed project includes an elevated road along the banks of the Ganga and Son rivers, following a design approach similar to the existing Digha-Didarganj JP Ganga Path.
An approximately 11-km stretch between Maner and Pareb is also proposed to be expanded into a four-lane highway and integrated with the project.
The development is expected to improve connectivity between Patna and neighbouring districts while facilitating smoother movement of vehicles over longer distances.
Alternative Route To Ease Traffic Congestion
The proposed highway is expected to provide an alternative route for vehicles travelling from Uttar Pradesh towards Patna, Saran and Vaishali.
At present, commuters face traffic congestion while passing through urban areas using the Buxar four-lane highway and the Bihta-Danapur road.
The new corridor could help reduce traffic pressure on these routes and congested areas of Patna, improving travel conditions for daily commuters and long-distance travellers.
Link With Sherpur-Dighwara Ganga Bridge And Digha JP Setu
The proposed elevated road is also planned to connect with the Sherpur-Dighwara Ganga Bridge and Digha JP Setu.
The links are expected to improve connectivity for vehicles travelling between Patna, North Bihar, Bhojpur and Buxar.
The proposed extension is part of efforts to strengthen road infrastructure in and around Patna, with improved connectivity expected to support regional transportation and economic activities.
