Patna: The Patna Smart City project is moving ahead with plans to allot around 500 prefabricated shops along JP Ganga Path, with several units already installed along the riverfront stretch. Authorities have now begun decorative and finishing work ahead of the formal allotment process.
Painting and design work is under way on the prefabricated structures, particularly in areas earmarked as food courts. Images of food and beverages are being painted on the shopfronts to give the zone a uniform and visually appealing look, officials said.
Illegal stalls cleared, vendors to be relocated
On Friday, civic authorities also removed illegally placed stalls and temporary shops from JP Ganga Path as part of a drive to reorganise vending activity along the corridor. The Smart City Authority said the move was aimed at streamlining commercial use of the area rather than displacing livelihoods.
Officials said vendors who were operating unauthorised stalls would be rehabilitated through the new prefabricated shops, which are expected to offer improved facilities and better infrastructure.
JP Ganga Path, developed as a key urban and recreational corridor along the Ganga, has seen growing footfall in recent months. Authorities said the planned allotment of standardised shops and food courts is intended to balance commercial activity with orderly development along the riverfront.
