Patna: Jai Prakash University (JPU) has started the online application process for admissions to its four-year undergraduate courses under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for the 2026–30 academic session.
Students can apply through the university portal until June 10. The university administration said preparations for the admission process are underway across affiliated colleges.
Help desks active during summer vacation
To assist applicants, colleges under the university have kept help desks operational despite the summer vacation.
Students are visiting campuses to obtain information related to admissions, syllabus structure and required documents. Staff members at the help desks are guiding students through the online application process and document submission requirements.
Semester and credit-based academic structure
JPU has been implementing the CBCS framework since the 2023 academic session.
Under the system, students study through a semester-based structure, with subjects divided into credits. Academic performance is assessed through grades and credits instead of percentage marks.
Flexibility to study subjects across streams
University officials said the CBCS structure allows students to study papers from multiple disciplines through grouped subject combinations.
Each semester will also include a compulsory paper carrying 100 marks. The subject will change every semester, allowing students to study topics outside their core discipline.
Competition for science and commerce seats may ease
JPU oversees 21 constituent colleges, 14 affiliated colleges and 28 government degree colleges across Saran, Siwan and Gopalganj districts.
More than 25 subjects are offered under arts, science and commerce streams. Admissions to science and commerce courses have traditionally seen high competition, although officials expect some relief this year following an increase in seats over the past three years.
First merit list on 22 June
According to the university administration, the application fee has been fixed at Rs. 500 and must be paid online.
After the application process closes, submitted forms will undergo verification. The first merit list is scheduled to be released on June 22, while admissions in allotted colleges will begin from June 23.
The university has uploaded detailed admission guidelines on its official website and advised applicants to read the instructions carefully before submitting forms to avoid technical errors.
