Patna: The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo, a senior judge of the Orissa high court, as the next chief justice of the Patna high court.
The recommendation was made at a meeting of the collegium on December 18. Justice Sahoo will assume office after the Union government issues the formal notification.
Justice Sahoo began his education at Nuabazar High School in Cuttack and went on to study science at Stewart Science College, Cuttack. He later completed postgraduate degrees in English and Odia from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, before obtaining his law degree from The Law College, Cuttack.
He enrolled as an advocate with the Orissa State Bar Council in November 1989 and practised primarily in criminal law and service matters. His practice spanned district courts, the Orissa high court, consumer forums and specialised tribunals, including the State Administrative Tribunal and the Central Administrative Tribunal. Justice Sahoo was appointed a judge of the Orissa high court in July 2014.
