Lakhisarai: Vishal Raj, Managing Director of Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL), on July 03 inspected the Kajra Solar Power-cum-Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project and reviewed the progress of Phase I and Phase II works. Senior officials, including the company’s Director (Technical) and the Superintending Engineer (Electrical), accompanied him during the visit.
Phase I Testing Reviewed
During the inspection, Vishal Raj reviewed the Operational Acceptance Test (OAT) being carried out for Phase I of the project. He assessed the progress of the testing process, system efficiency, safety standards and compliance with prescribed technical parameters.
Officials briefed him on the current status of the testing and outlined the next stages of work before commercial operations.

Phase II Completion Target Reaffirmed
The Managing Director also inspected the construction work under Phase II and reviewed the progress of ongoing civil and technical activities at the project site.
According to officials, commercial operations for Phase II are scheduled to begin in January 2027. Vishal Raj directed the EPC contractor and the technical team to complete the remaining work within the stipulated timeline.
Key Renewable Energy Project for Bihar
The Kajra project is a major renewable energy initiative aimed at strengthening Bihar’s clean energy infrastructure and improving grid reliability.
According to BSPGCL, the first phase includes 185 MW of solar generation capacity supported by a battery energy storage system with a capacity of 282 MWh. The storage facility is designed to improve the stability and reliability of electricity supply by enabling more effective management of renewable power.

Once Phase II is completed in January 2027, the project is expected to have a total installed solar capacity of 301 MW and a battery energy storage capacity of 523 MWh.
Among India’s Large BESS-Based Solar Projects
BSPGCL said the Kajra Solar Power-cum-Battery Energy Storage System project is among the country’s major solar projects integrating large-scale battery energy storage. The project is expected to support Bihar’s transition towards cleaner energy while improving the availability of uninterrupted power across the state.
