Khagaria: A major breakthrough was achieved by the Special Task Force (STF) and district police in Khagaria after they uncovered a mini-gun factory operating secretly on the banks of the Ganges River. The operation took place in the Mathar Diara area, a remote stretch between Khagaria and Munger districts long suspected of harbouring illegal activities. Acting on specific intelligence, teams from the STF, District Intelligence Unit (DIU) and Mufussil police station conducted a swift raid that exposed the illegal weapons unit.
During the search, a large cache of weapons and tools used for firearm manufacturing was recovered. Among the seized items were four country-made pistols, one more pistol, ten magazines, nine hacksaw blades, twenty-five files, a drill machine, a vermicomposting machine, a hammer and several other tools. Police said the quantity and variety of equipment clearly indicated that the site had been used for regular weapons production.
Five men from Munger district, all suspected to be involved in the illegal arms network, were arrested during the operation. At a press conference, Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar said the force had been receiving intelligence for several days regarding the illegal unit. The raid, led by Mufussil police station chief Amarjeet Pratap Singh and Assistant Sub-Inspector Pankaj Kumar, was carried out with the support of the Patna STF, DIU and Arms Cell. Officials described the operation as precise and well-executed.
The arrested suspects — Mu. Tabrez alias Tammon, Mu. Rinku alias Fayaz, Mu. Aftab Alam, Mu. Wasim and Umesh Yadav — are all residents of Mirzapur in Munger district. Police said initial interrogation revealed useful clues about their activities. Investigators have been instructed to review their criminal backgrounds and trace the full supply chain involved in the manufacturing and distribution of weapons. SDPO Forest Mukul Ranjan, who was also present during the briefing, said the investigation is ongoing and more developments are expected soon.
