Nawada: There was panic in Nawada district of Bihar on Wednesday morning when the body of a young man was found floating in the Sakri river. The man has been identified as 36-year-old Raju Ravidas, son of Shivbalak Ravidas. Raju worked as a labourer at a brick kiln in Haryana and had returned to his village about 10 days ago.
According to his mother, Chhatiya Devi, on Tuesday evening some people called Raju out of his house and took him away. When he did not return, the family grew worried. The next morning, villagers spotted his body in the river and informed the police. There were injuries on his body, and it seemed he was crushed with bricks and stones before being thrown into the river.
As soon as the news spread, a large crowd gathered at the spot. Bind police station chief Chandan Kumar reached the site with his team, took the body into custody, and sent it to Biharsharif Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. Police said Raju’s wife was at her maternal home at the time of the incident and her statement will be taken after she returns to help with the investigation.
The police added that the exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report arrives. Villagers are in shock over the brutal killing and have demanded strict action against those responsible.
