Patna: RJD National President Lalu Prasad addressed a gathering on the occasion of Maharaja Bijli Pasi Jayanti, where he discussed his contributions to the Pasi community. He recalled how, upon becoming Chief Minister, he had waived off the centuries-old Palm Tree Tax that had burdened the Pasi community. Lalu Prasad emphasized his efforts to ease the lives of the backward and deprived castes, citing a moment from 1990-91 when he asked Pasi brothers to show if their hearts bore scars from the hardships of climbing palm trees. The emotional response from the community, showing their wounds, left a lasting impression on him.
Lalu Prasad reflected on the exploitation faced by Dalits and backward classes under the feudal system, noting that his actions to dismantle these oppressive structures made him a target of criticism. He was branded as a joker, illiterate, and a villain by those whose interests were threatened by his efforts for social justice. Despite the smear campaigns, Lalu Prasad stated he remains committed to fighting for the rights of the marginalized.
He further warned of the growing threat posed by organizations like RSS and political parties such as BJP, who, according to him, are using subtle tactics to weaken the ongoing fight for social justice, equality, and secularism. Lalu Prasad accused the BJP and its allies of undermining the Constitution, insulting Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, and working to dismantle reservations. He urged Dalits, tribals, and backward communities to remain vigilant and continue to rise against these forces that threaten their social, economic, and political gains.
