Patna: The Bihar Government has completed the process of transferring land for the construction of AIIMS in Darbhanga. The Health Department officially handed over the remaining 37.31 acres of land to AIIMS, making the total land allocated 187.44 acres. The papers were handed over to the AIIMS Director in a ceremony held at Vikas Bhawan auditorium. This move is expected to accelerate the establishment of the much-anticipated medical facility in North Bihar.
Health Minister Mangal Pandey stated that the project, which was approved in 2019-20, received Rs 1,264 crore in funding in 2020 for a 750-bed hospital. The construction of the institute has been entrusted to IIT Delhi, with the total expenditure expected to exceed initial estimates. The AIIMS in Darbhanga is anticipated to serve over eight crore people in the Mithila region, as well as neighboring Nepal and North-Eastern states, significantly improving healthcare access.
The Special Secretary of the Health Department, Shashank Shekhar Sinha, handed over the land documents to AIIMS Director Madhavanand Kar. Pandey emphasized that this project will greatly enhance the health infrastructure of the region, providing better medical facilities for the local population.
The land at Shobhan Bypass has been deemed suitable by the Union Health Ministry for the construction, and the foundation stone will be laid soon. This announcement has sparked optimism about the rapid progress of healthcare development in the region.
