Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain in six districts of Bihar on Monday, while warning of a sharp rise in temperature across the state starting April 21. The weather office has also issued a heat wave alert for several districts on April 24 and 25.
According to the Meteorological Center, districts in north-eastern Bihar including Kishanganj and Purnia are likely to witness cloudy skies with light rainfall today, providing temporary relief from rising temperatures. However, the rest of the state is expected to experience an increase in heat levels due to dry, hot winds.
Heat Wave Conditions Expected in Several Districts
The IMD has cautioned that heat wave-like conditions are likely in 15 districts later this week, particularly on April 24 and 25. These include:
- Banka, Jamui, Munger, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Nawada, Nalanda, Patna, Gaya, Buxar, Aurangabad, Kaimur, Rohtas, Jehanabad, and Arwal.
Temperatures in these areas may soar to 40 degrees Celsius or more, with the possibility of “hot day” conditions, where high temperature and intense sunshine combine to cause discomfort.
Sunday Sees Mercury Touch 39.9°C
On Sunday, Aurangabad and Gaya recorded the highest temperature in the state at 39.9 degrees Celsius, indicating the onset of a heatwave trend in southern Bihar.
Public Advised to Stay Cautious
The Meteorological Center has advised residents, especially in the affected districts, to take precautionary measures against heat-related illnesses. Citizens are urged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, consume adequate water, and wear light, breathable clothing when stepping out.
