Liquor Smugglers in Bihar Use Horses to Evade Police, One Seized in Raid

Patna : The police in West Champaran district have uncovered an unusual method of liquor smuggling—using a horse to transport illegal alcohol. In a recent raid in the Nautan area, officers seized 75 litres of foreign liquor, along with the horse and three abandoned motorbikes. The smugglers, however, managed to escape.
Bihar has enforced a strict prohibition on alcohol under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government, but smugglers continue to find innovative ways to evade the ban. While liquor is frequently seized from buses, trains, and cars, this incident marks a shift in tactics, with criminals now employing animals in their operations.
Station House Officer Rajesh Kumar said the raid was conducted on the orders of Bettiah Superintendent of Police as part of intensified operations ahead of the Holi festival. The liquor, horse, and bikes were confiscated from the Vishambarpur Diara and Banswaadi areas near Shivrajpur.
