Gaya: A former BJP MP from Aurangabad has accused officials at Magadh University of large-scale financial irregularities and sought intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a letter addressed to the prime minister, former MP Sushil Kumar Singh alleged that acting vice-chancellor Prof Shashi Pratap Shahi was involved in illegal withdrawals of Rs. 150 crore to Rs. 200 crore from university funds, along with irregular appointments and administrative violations.
Copies of the letter were also sent to the prime minister’s office, the governor’s secretariat, the public grievance department in Patna and Bihar’s vigilance department.
Allegations of financial misconduct
In the letter, Singh claimed that major financial irregularities had taken place at the university over the past three years.
He alleged that substantial amounts had been withdrawn illegally from university accounts during the tenure of the acting vice-chancellor.
The former MP further claimed that several complaints supported by affidavits had already been submitted to the governor’s secretariat by social activists and affected individuals regarding alleged corruption and irregular appointments.
According to the letter, a public interest litigation related to the matter has also been filed before the Patna high court.
Questions raised over complaint handling
Singh also questioned the functioning of the governor’s secretariat in handling complaints related to the university.
He alleged that complaints against the acting vice-chancellor were being referred back to the same office for inquiry, preventing impartial action.
The letter further claimed that attempts were being made to influence or pressure complainants. Singh alleged that some officials were in contact with the vice-chancellor and were shielding him from scrutiny.
