Man Ends Life in Patna, Alleges Wife Slept in Separate Room and Abused Him in Suicide Note

Patna : A young man in Patna died by suicide late on Saturday night, leaving behind a two-page note accusing his wife and in-laws of harassment. The deceased, identified as Rajeev Kumar, also known as Mintu, was found hanging at his residence in Kankarbagh. His family discovered the body and alerted the police, who have since sent it for post-mortem examination.

The tragedy comes shortly after a similar incident in Bengaluru, where a man named E. Atul Subhash died by suicide after allegedly facing harassment from his wife and in-laws.

Allegations of Abuse and Neglect

Rajeev Kumar, son of Jagdish Prasad and a resident of Ashok Nagar, Ramlakhan Path, married Jyoti, also known as Preeti, in 2016. According to his family and the contents of his suicide note, tensions had been mounting for months. Preeti, who had been working at a private company for the past year, allegedly maintained close contact with a male colleague. The note claims that she often spent nights sleeping in another room while speaking to this person for hours on her mobile phone.

Rajeev’s attempts to confront his wife reportedly led to further abuse. His family alleges that Preeti verbally and physically assaulted him when he objected to her behaviour.

Family Conflicts and Escalation

The situation escalated six months ago when Preeti left for her parental home and refused to return. When Rajeev went to bring her back, he was allegedly assaulted by his wife and in-laws. His father, Jagdish Prasad, also attempted to intervene but was unsuccessful in resolving the conflict.

With the family tensions mounting, Rajeev’s mental health reportedly deteriorated. His father and elder brother, Sonu, had been away on Gola Road attending a family event on Sunday when they were informed of his death late on Saturday night.

Suicide Note and Police Investigation

In his suicide note, Rajeev explicitly accused his wife, mother-in-law Leela Devi, father-in-law Rampravesh, and brother-in-law Pankaj Kumar of subjecting him to mental torture. “I, Rajeev Kumar (Mintu), am writing this in full consciousness that my wife Jyoti Kumari (Preeti) has been harassing me for the past few months. She sleeps in another room at night and talks to boys on the phone. When I object, she abuses and beats me. My in-laws also mentally harass me. I am ending my life because I can no longer bear this pressure. I request that these people be punished severely after my death,” he wrote.

Kankarbagh police station in-charge Ravindra Tiwari confirmed that an application has been filed by the deceased’s father. A case is expected to be registered against the accused.
