Kishanganj: A 25-year-old man was brutally murdered in Bihar’s Kishanganj district after being beaten with bricks and stones and then run over multiple times with a car in an attempt to pass off the killing as a road accident. Police have arrested four people in the case, including the victim’s girlfriend and her two brothers.
The victim has been identified as Zulfikar, a resident of Padariya village under Sikti police station in Araria district. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Tedhagachh police station on the night of December 19–20. His body was found by the roadside early on December 20.
According to the police, Zulfikar was in a relationship with one of the accused for the past six months. On the night of December 19, the woman allegedly called him from Padariya village to meet her. When the two were meeting at a secluded spot behind her house, her brothers spotted them and confronted Zulfikar. He was then assaulted with sticks and blunt objects, leading to his death.
To portray the murder as an accident, the accused allegedly transported the body about two kilometres away and ran over it with a car five times before abandoning it on the roadside.
Superintendent of Police Sagar Kumar said the police received information around 4 am on December 20 about an injured person lying near Fulwari–Rajwan road. A patrol team reached the spot and took the man to a primary health centre, where doctors declared him dead.
Suspicion arose after police recovered Zulfikar’s motorcycle from the scene without any damage. His wife, Hasne Ara, later filed a written complaint at Tedhagachh police station, accusing unknown persons of murder. A case was registered, and an investigation was launched.
During questioning, the arrested woman confessed that she had been in a relationship with Zulfikar for several months. She told police that her brothers had caught them in a compromising situation. Initially, the family discussed marriage, but the situation escalated after Zulfikar disclosed that he was already married and had a two-year-old child. Following this revelation, the accused allegedly assaulted him, resulting in his death.
SP Sagar Kumar said investigations revealed that Zulfikar and the woman first met at a party in May 2025 and later exchanged phone numbers at a family wedding in July. Zulfikar reportedly visited Kishanganj every few weeks to meet her.
A special investigation team was formed under SDPO-1 Gautam Kumar. Based on technical evidence, call detail records and interrogation, police identified and arrested the four accused within 18 hours of the incident.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Adam, Shehzad Alam, Khushbu Begum (19) and Mohammad Anzar Alam, all residents of Dahibhat village under Tedhagachh police station. Police have recovered the car used in the crime, a jack, the victim’s motorcycle and four mobile phones on the basis of the accused’s statements.
All four accused have been produced before the court and sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.
