Mayor’s Son Banned from Patna Municipal Corporation Meetings Following Allegations of Misconduct and Violence

Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation has issued a formal ban on the presence of Shishir Kumar, son of the sitting Mayor, from all corporation offices and meetings, following serious allegations of misconduct, intimidation, and violent behaviour towards elected councillors and officials.

The decision was taken after an incident on July 11 during the ninth ordinary board meeting held at Hotel The Panas near Ramgulam Chowk, where Kumar allegedly arrived accompanied by bouncers and armed personnel. According to the Corporation’s official statement, he is accused of verbally abusing and physically assaulting several ward councillors during the proceedings.

Municipal officials stated that Kumar’s presence at such meetings — often accompanied by bodyguards carrying visible weapons — has created an atmosphere of fear among staff and elected members. He has also reportedly attempted to interfere in official functioning, pressurising employees and disrupting municipal operations.

The Corporation has written to the District Magistrate seeking formal prohibition of Kumar and his associates from all its premises, including its headquarters in the Mauryalok complex and the venues of any future board or standing committee meetings. The letter also calls for verification of Kumar’s criminal background, as well as that of his private security personnel, including their arms licenses.

Multiple criminal cases are reportedly pending against Kumar, including charges of assault (Case No. 232/23, Alamganj PS), murder (Case No. 511/24, Alamganj PS), and abuse and assault of a senior municipal officer (Case No. 207/25, Kotwali PS). He also faces allegations of misconduct towards women, including molestation and threats to dismiss female councillors.
