Minister Vijay Choudhary Inspects Rubber Dam on Falgu River, Pledges Measures for Pollution-Free Water
Gaya: Vijay Kumar Choudhary, the State Water Resources Minister, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the rubber dam on the Falgu River during his tour of Gaya on Sunday, alongside officials and engineers from the district administration, local municipal body, and water resources department.
Following the inspection, Minister Choudhary addressed reporters, emphasizing the concerted efforts underway to preserve the sanctity of the Falgu River and maintain its purity. Revered as a river of religious significance, the Falgu river draws devotees from across the country to Gaya for the sacred rituals of Pind Daan and Tarpan, underlining its cultural importance.
Under the directive of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the installation of a rubber dam on the Falgu River stands as a pioneering initiative aimed at ensuring year-round water availability. Minister Choudhary highlighted the necessity of addressing pollution concerns arising from the disposal of worship materials and urban sewage into the river, stressing the importance of constructing sewer drains along the riverbanks to divert contaminated water away from the dam.
Efforts to raise awareness among devotees regarding responsible waste disposal were also underscored by the Minister, citing the provision of large-sized utensils at strategic locations to collect offerings and prevent their entry into the river. This innovative scheme, championed by the Bihar government, represents a concerted effort to safeguard the purity of the Falgu River, integral to the religious fabric of the region.
Instructing for the organization of extensive awareness programs, Minister Choudhary underscored the need for collaborative efforts between the Gaya Municipal Corporation and the Water Resources Department to ensure the cleanliness and purity of the Falgu River. He directed the formation of a joint maintenance committee to oversee ongoing efforts in this regard.
The inspection was attended by prominent officials including Gaya District Magistrate Thiagarajan SM, Gaya Municipal Corporation Municipal Commissioner Abhilasha Sharma, along with senior officials from the Water Resources Department, signaling a unified commitment towards safeguarding the ecological integrity of the Falgu River.
