Patna : Mobile towers are set to be installed in several districts of Bihar bordering Nepal as part of an effort to strengthen communication networks and curb smuggling and infiltration. The move aims to ensure timely sharing of information, a longstanding challenge for security forces operating in the region.
The Department of Telecommunications has identified key locations in districts such as West Champaran, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, and Araria for the installation of 33 mobile towers. District Magistrates have been informed about the project, which seeks to improve the communication infrastructure in remote border areas.
Communication Gaps Hamper Border Security
Currently, the absence of mobile towers in the border areas makes it difficult for security personnel to relay critical information about smuggling and infiltration activities. Security forces stationed in these regions often face delays in transmitting information due to poor connectivity. The new mobile towers, to be installed by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), will offer 4G service and significantly enhance telecommunication capabilities along the border.
“Security personnel have faced challenges in sharing information promptly, which has hampered anti-smuggling operations,” said Dilip Kumar, Deputy Director General of the Department of Telecommunications. “To address this, 33 towers are being installed in five border districts, with five already operational.”
Major Focus on West Champaran and Madhubani
West Champaran and Madhubani, which share the longest stretches of the border with Nepal, will see the largest number of installations. West Champaran will receive 20 towers, while 7 will be installed in Madhubani. Additionally, three towers will be set up in Araria, one in Sitamarhi, and the remaining towers will cover other districts in the region.
BSNL to Lead the Installation Effort
BSNL has been entrusted with the responsibility of setting up the towers and ensuring seamless 4G connectivity in these vulnerable regions. Officials hope that improved communication infrastructure will strengthen border security and allow for quicker responses to any suspicious activity.
