Patna: Mokama MLA and Janata Dal (United) leader Anant Singh has been granted bail by the Patna High Court in connection with the murder of RJD leader Dularchand Yadav. Singh is expected to walk out of Beur Jail around 2 pm on Monday after spending nearly four months in custody.

Following his release, Singh will head directly to his MLA residence on Mall Road in Patna, where elaborate arrangements have been made by supporters to welcome him. Preparations include a large gathering and a community feast, with around three lakh rasgullas reportedly being prepared for the occasion.

According to supporters, seating arrangements for around 1,000 to 1,500 people have been made, while the overall gathering could see 10,000 to 15,000 people attending. A large pandal has been set up at the residence, and additional fans and coolers have been arranged considering the rising temperatures.

Roadshow planned in Mokama

After spending the night in Patna, Singh is scheduled to leave for Mokama on Tuesday, March 24. A roadshow stretching nearly 50 kilometres is planned in his assembly constituency.

During the roadshow, Singh will travel by road to the Barahiya Maharani Sthan Temple, with supporters expected to welcome him at several points along the route.

Background of the case

RJD leader Dularchand Yadav was killed on October 30, 2025, during the Bihar Assembly election campaign in Mokama Tal area. The incident occurred during campaigning for Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi.

Following the incident, then Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya Sharma personally reached Singh’s residence in Mokama late on the night of November 1 and arrested him. After being produced in court, Singh was sent to Beur Jail on November 2.

During the recent hearing in the Patna High Court, Singh’s legal team presented several arguments in support of the bail plea.

Arguments presented in court

The defence argued that Singh was accused of shooting Dularchand Yadav in the left heel, but the post-mortem report mentioned that the cause of death included injuries caused by assault and being run over by a vehicle.

The lawyers also pointed out that police personnel present at the spot had given statements but none claimed to have seen Singh firing a gun.

Another argument cited the statement of the victim’s grandson, on whose complaint the case was registered. According to the defence, when he first called his father after the incident, he reportedly said that his grandfather had died, without initially stating that he had been murdered.

The defence further submitted that Singh, being a political leader, has often faced allegations due to political rivalry.

Post-mortem findings

The post-mortem report of Dularchand Yadav indicated multiple deep injuries on the body along with signs of severe internal bleeding. The lungs were found ruptured and several ribs were broken.

Injuries were also recorded near the vertebra on the right side of the spine. Deep wounds were found on the head, knees, ankles and back. The report also mentioned a firearm injury mark near the right leg.

Multiple FIRs registered

According to the Patna police, four FIRs were registered in connection with the incident. The first complaint was filed at Bhadaur police station by the victim’s grandson Neeraj Kumar.

Another FIR was lodged by Anant Singh supporter Jitendra Kumar, while the police also registered a case based on their own statement.

Meanwhile, Singh had earlier announced that he would not contest future Assembly elections. Speaking to reporters after casting his vote in the Rajya Sabha election earlier, he had said he would not contest if Chief Minister Nitish Kumar does not remain active in politics.
