Motihari: In a major late-night crackdown under Superintendent of Police (SP) Swaran Prabhat’s zero-tolerance policy against alcohol and corruption, Motihari police raided a high-profile liquor party at Simran Hotel in the Chhatauni police station area on Sunday night.
Seven people were arrested, including the son of RJD leader Vichari Rai, the son of the owner of Hotel Jaiswal, and Rahul Verma, a recently released criminal facing charges under the Arms Act, NDPS Act, and attempted murder.
Police sources said that the raid, conducted on a tip-off, uncovered several bottles of liquor, and that the gathering was being held without any official entry register. The hotel manager was taken into custody, while the hotel owner remains at large.
SP Swaran Prabhat said the hotel has been sealed and assured that such violations will not be tolerated. “The liquor and drug trade will not be allowed under any circumstances. We have deployed 24 CAPF companies across the district in preparation for the assembly elections and are conducting continuous raids with paramilitary support,” he stated.
According to police officials, those arrested belong to influential families and were partying late into the night with loud music and alcohol. Several individuals reportedly tried to escape to the upper floors when police stormed the premises, but were eventually apprehended.
The operation has caused a stir in Motihari’s political and business circles, with locals saying such high-profile parties had become common in recent months. Following the SP’s strict enforcement drive, many hotels are said to have cancelled upcoming private events.
Police have launched an investigation into the role of hotel owners and event organisers, signaling that the crackdown marks not just an isolated action but a broader warning against violations of Bihar’s prohibition law.
