Munger / Patna : A police officer who was critically injured in a mob attack in Munger,has died while undergoing treatment in Patna, officials confirmed. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Santosh Kumar Singh was attacked with a sharp weapon on the head while responding to a clash between two groups in the Nandlalpur area under Mufassil police station on Friday night.
Munger Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Iman Masood said that five people, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the attack.
The incident comes just days after ASI Rajiv Ranjan was killed by a mob in Araria.
Attack during police intervention
ASI Santosh Kumar Singh and his team had rushed to the scene after Dial 112, the emergency police response service, received reports of a violent dispute between two parties. As the officers attempted to intervene, the mob turned on them. One of the attackers struck Singh on the head, causing him to collapse.
His colleagues immediately took him to Munger Sadar Hospital, from where he was referred to Patna in critical condition. Despite receiving medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries.
Sadar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abhishek Anand said that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend others involved in the attack.
