Muzaffarpur/Patna: A man and three of his daughters were found dead late on Sunday night in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district in an incident police are treating as a suspected murder–suicide, officials said.

The deaths occurred in Ward Number Four of Mishraulia village, under the Sakra police station area. The deceased have been identified as Amarnath Ram and his three daughters. Two sons survived and are receiving medical treatment, police said.

According to preliminary information, the man allegedly attempted to hang all five of his children before taking his own life. Three daughters and the father died at the scene, while the two sons survived. The family’s mother had died about a year ago, relatives told police.

The incident came to light late on Sunday, triggering panic and grief in the village. Officers from Sakra police station reached the spot soon after being informed, secured the area and sent the bodies for postmortem examinations.

Police said there was no official confirmation yet of the motive behind the deaths. “We are investigating the case from all angles,” an officer said, adding that statements from relatives and neighbours were being recorded.

The tragedy has left the local community in shock, with residents gathering near the house as police continued their inquiries.
