Patna: A special investigation team (SIT) probing the death of a NEET aspirant in Patna visited her home village in Jehanabad on Sunday, questioning family members as investigators seek to reconstruct the events leading up to her death.
The four-member SIT, led by a woman police inspector and comprising two other women officers and a male officer, reached Patiyawan village under the jurisdiction of Shakurabad police station at around 3pm. Local police personnel were present during the visit.
For nearly two and a half hours, the team spoke with the student’s parents at their home, recording statements and gathering details about her movements before she travelled to Patna. The student’s mother, a female relative and her uncle later confirmed that the officers had questioned the family as part of the investigation.
According to people familiar with the inquiry, the SIT asked the parents when their daughter had last visited Jehanabad, the time she left for Patna, and whether she had stopped anywhere en route. Officers also sought information on other personal and logistical details that could help establish a clearer timeline.
The investigation relates to the death of the student, a resident of Jehanabad district, who was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) while staying at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel in Patna. Two days earlier, senior SIT officers had visited the hostel, sealed CCTV cameras and collected material relevant to the case.
Attempts to contact Aparajit Lohan, the superintendent of police of Jehanabad, for comment were unsuccessful. However, a police officer confirmed that the SIT’s visit to the village was part of the ongoing investigation and that Shakurabad police were assisting the team.
Officials said the inquiry was continuing on multiple fronts, including examination of evidence gathered in Patna and statements recorded from the family, as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
