Darbhanga: From July 1, Akasa Air will start a new daily flight connecting Darbhanga in Bihar to Mumbai. This new flight will have a 180-seater plane with only economy class seats. On the first day of operation, the fare for the Darbhanga-Mumbai or Mumbai-Darbhanga journey is expected to be around Rs 5,000. This will give relief to many passengers who travel frequently between these two cities.
At present, SpiceJet is the only airline running a flight on this route. With Akasa Air starting its service, passengers will get more options and the fares may also become cheaper due to competition. The Akasa flight QP 1529 will depart from Mumbai at 10:55 am and reach Darbhanga at 1:30 pm. The return flight QP 1530 will leave Darbhanga at 2:10 pm and reach Mumbai by 4:45 pm.
Currently, six pairs of flights operate from Darbhanga airport, which has become an important gateway for the people of North Bihar and Mithila region. This new flight will save time for travellers as the journey will take only two and a half hours by air instead of over a day by train. Businessmen, students, and families will find it more convenient to travel to Mumbai for work, studies, and other needs.
Officials said that apart from giving passengers better travel options, this flight will also help in transporting Bihar’s agro-products like makhana to Mumbai markets easily. Tourism between the two cities is also expected to grow, and new jobs will be created in the aviation and travel sector with this flight starting from Darbhanga.
