Patna: The Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar, on Saturday inspected the electric crematorium at Bans Ghat in Patna and reviewed the progress of an under-construction modern crematorium complex in the area. The visit formed part of a broader assessment of infrastructure projects aimed at improving public facilities and urban connectivity in the state capital.

Officials briefed the chief minister on the status of construction at the crematorium complex, which is being developed to accommodate the large number of people who gather at Bans Ghat for final rites. Kumar directed authorities to complete the work within the stipulated timeframe and to ensure that all essential amenities are provided for visitors, stressing the importance of dignity and convenience at such a sensitive public space.

The chief minister also assessed the progress of a two-lane link road being built under the Mandiri Nala project. The road is expected to connect Income Tax Golambar on Nehru Path (Bailey Road) to JP Ganga Path via Bans Ghat, creating a direct corridor between key arterial routes in the city. Once completed, the link is likely to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow in central Patna.

Kumar instructed officials to expedite the road construction and maintain quality standards, saying the project would significantly enhance daily commuting for residents. Direct connectivity between Nehru Path and JP Ganga Path is expected to offer an alternative route for vehicles, particularly during peak hours.

Among those present during the inspection were deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary; JD(U) leader and MP Sanjay Kumar Jha; MLA Shyam Rajak; and Patna divisional commissioner Animesh Parashar, along with senior administrative and police officials.
