Patna: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has rallied behind its vice-presidential nominee, CP Radhakrishnan, with key constituent parties expressing their support. Janata Dal (United) president and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar announced on Monday that his party would back Radhakrishnan, calling the decision “welcome” and extending his congratulations to the Maharashtra governor.

CP Radhakrishnan, a former BJP president in Tamil Nadu, has a long association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He has previously served as governor of Telangana and Jharkhand and as lieutenant governor of Puducherry. His nomination follows the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar last month.
The vice-presidential election is scheduled for 9 September. While the opposition has yet to announce its candidate, Radhakrishnan has already secured widespread backing from NDA allies. Alongside JD(U), Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustan Awam Morcha, and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha have all pledged their support. Notably, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, has also endorsed Radhakrishnan’s candidature.
